About us
The Army Cadet Force is committed to giving 12–18 year-olds from all backgrounds an equal opportunity, teaching important lessons and providing support along the way. At Abbey detachment, we deliver the army cadet syllabus, it is designed to provide a firm foundation for the cadets to utilise in future endeavours. We teach important skills such as first aid, as well as navigation and expanding their problem-solving abilities. However, these lessons can be challenging to deliver without the correct resources, placing stress onto the adult volunteers. Our hope is to be able to expand our currently limited resources, which we believe can be achieved with help from outside influences.
For example, the detachment does not own a CPR mannequin and must borrow this from company stores, which can be restrictive for training needs. First aid is a vital skill which everyone should have the opportunity to learn to benefit themselves and their community, however a CPR mannequin can cost up to £400.
With a community grant, it would enable us to buy new equipment and provide a revitalised cadet experience. We would be able to teach them new skills and drills effectively, whilst improving their confidence and leadership abilities. Cadets can use these skills to both benefit their community as well as to enable them to achieve their aspirations, whether that be to secure a job, go to university or join the army. This would overall benefit the community as the cadets will remember what the community did for them and inspire them to repay the good will in the future. This would give the cadets a new respect for their community and learn the importance of looking after the community around them, helping where they can.
